How to Evacuate When Disaster Strikes

When a large scale earthquake strikes
If you are not in a hazard area for tsunami or floods
- Remain calm and protect yourself from falling objects.
- Stay where you are until the shaking stops. Then evacuate to a park or square with your emergency bag.
- If your house is in danger of collapsing or of a secondary disaster, evacuate to your designated evacuation center.
- Get in touch with your family and friends to see if they are okay.
If you are in a hazard area for tsunami or floods
- Remain calm and protect yourself from falling objects.
- Stay where you are until the shaking stops. Then evacuate from the hazardous area with your emergency bag. If you cannot make it, rush into a tall building. If possible, go to a designated evacuation building from tsunami.
- Tsunami waves will come repeatedly, so stay at higher ground until the tsunami warning is canceled
- If your house is in danger of collapsing, evacuate to your designated evacuation center and please wait until Tsunami and other such warnings are lifted and the safety of your area is confirmed before returning.
- Get in touch with your family and friends to see if they are okay.
