Large Garbage Collection Schedule
Large garbage is collected 6 times a year in each area category (even month vs. odd month area categories).

How to Apply
1.1 Via Designated Large Garbage Application Postcard
Please write your personal address and name, types and number of items you will discard, include a map showing your address, and information on where the garbage will be put out on the day of collection on the "Large Garbage Pickup Application" postcard. Please fill in your personal address and name on this section of the postcard (not a company, etc.)
You can submit this postcard to the Tokushima City Environmental Policy Division (City Hall 10F), East-West Garbage Disposal Plants, or any branch office.
1.2 Application via Internet
Please read the note below and apply for collection through the following site (JPN only):

Note: Please be sure to complete "STEP8" when applying via the internet or you will not complete the application. Unless the 「申込完了」 (Completion of Application) text appears on the page, you have not completed your application.
2. Notification of Your Assigned Collection Day
Around 2~3 weeks after you finished your application, you will receive an envelope with your "Large Garbage Collection Day Notification" and "Large Garbage Collection Stickers." The notification will have information on your collection day and where to place your collectable garbage in it.
When Discarding Your Large Garbage
1. Attach a Large Garbage Collection Sticker on the Item(s)
Please be sure that the Large Garbage Collection Stickers are attached to a visible location on each of your collectable garbage items.
Note: We will not collect any items that do not have a sticker attached to them.
2. Put Your Collectable Garbage in the Designated Collection Location
Please put your collectable large garbage in your designated collection location (as written on the notification in your envelope) by 8:30 on the collection day. Please understand that due to the amount of other collections or the road situations, we may not pick up your garbage at 8:30. In the case we have not collected your large garbage by 15:30 on your day of collection, please contact the collection staff.
Note 1: As of April 2009, the large garbage collection is done by a public contractor.
Note 2: There are cases of stolen large garbage, so please do not place your large garbage out in your collection location until the morning of the collection day.
Additional Notes
About the Application
- As applications are processed in the order they are received, we recommend you apply as early as you can. (The end of the month often has many applications)
- You can find the designated application postcards at any branch office, any community center, the East-West Garbage Disposal Plants, and the Tokushima City Environmental Policy Division on the 10F of the City Hall.
- Applications are limited to one per family unit (one application can include up to 5 large garbage items).
- If possible please do not make any changes the items to be discarded or your collection day.
- Please note that there are some items that cannot be collected/processed in Tokushima City. (Please double-check if your items are collectable before applying.)
- We will not collect items not included in your application or items that do not have a large garbage collection sticker on them.
- If you must make a change to the details of your application (or a cancelation of your application) please contact the collection staff.
About the Collection Location
- As a general rule, the collection locations will be: in front of your house, in the entrance of the 1st floor of your apartment building, or another easy to find place.
- In the case that a wide-set truck (2 ton truck) cannot fit into a narrow road (to your location), we will pick up your garbage at a place designated by the City. Please inform your neighbors that you will be placing your garbage at this location beforehand.
- Please apply via the location you are currently living at.
Other Notes
- We will not collect large items that come from moving
- We will not collect large amounts of abandoned bicycles/trash in apartment areas.
About Eligible Large Garbage Items
Please consider donating items that can still be used.
Items Larger than 30cm in Total Diameter
Note 1: Items smaller than 30cm in total diameter are classified has non-burnable trash.
Note 2: Even if an item is broken, if its total diameter was larger than 30cm, it is still considered large garbage (ex. a broken pot originally larger than 30cm in diameter)
Electronics (Video players, stereos, heaters, fans, (de)humidifiers, kotatsu, vacuums, etc)
- Note 1: Electric water heaters, rice cookers, and radios are non-burnable garbage.
- Note 2: Air conditioners (inside or outside), TV's, refrigerators/freezers, washing machines, clothes driers, and computers must be recycled based on the Law for Recycling Specific Kinds of Home Appliances (JPN only) and cannot be discarded as large garbage.
Furniture (Tables, chairs (standing/floor-type), shelves, cupboard, bookcase, shoe racks, TV stands, vanities, etc.)
Cooking/kitchen items (gas burners, microwaves, rice dispensers, etc.)
Bedding items (futons, bed frames, comforters/duvets)
Rideable items (bicycles, baby strollers, swings)
Others (Clothes drying poles, ski poles, 18L square cans, 18L polyethylene tanks, carpets, bamboo blinds, etc.)
Non-eligible Items
Small but heavy items (irons, dumbbells, bowling balls, etc.)
