Dandong City
The friendship city relationship between Tokushima City and Dandong City was established in 1991.
Dandong’s population is about 700,000 people, and the city is located in the southeastern part of the Liaoning Province at the mouth where the Yalu River meets the Yellow Sea. The city is surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on the fourth side, and is developing as a distribution base for trade. The central-located Jinjiangshan Park, Yalu River Park, and the Phoenix Mountain are famous tourist attractions within the city.
Reason for connection:
By invitation of the Chinese Ambassador and Japan-China Friendship Associations, the mayor of Tokushima City visited Dandong City in a delegation group in August 1987. After this visit, as the momentum of the two cities’ connection was growing, Dandong City received permission from the (Chinese) State Council to form a friendship relationship with Tokushima City in June of 1990. The friendship city relationship was finalized on March 19, 1991, when the Tokushima City Council officially approved the two cities’ relationship.
