最終更新日:2023年9月28日
What is the Long-Term Care Insurance (Kaigo Hoken)?
Long-term care insurance is a social healthcare system, which provides nursing care service at 10-30% of the original cost for individuals who are certified to need caring.
Foreign residents who meet the following conditions are insured under long-term care insurance and are expected to pay the corresponding insurance premium.
Those insured under Long-Term Care Insurance must (be):
- 65 years of age or older
- Subject to the Basic Resident Registration Law
- Have been living in Japan legally for more than 3 months (if the period of stay on your visa is 3 months or less, you will not be insured until you can provide documents to the Elderly Care Division (Korei Kaigo-ka) that prove you will be here for longer)
